President calls on Law Commission to make existing laws fit for the times

ZOOMBANGLA OFFICE: President M Abdul Hamid today urged the Law Commission to take the necessary steps to modernize and adapt the country’s existing laws and regulations.

The Head of State made the appeal as a four-member Law Commission delegation led by its Chairman, Justice ABM Khairul Haque paid him a courtesy visit to Bangabhaban here this evening.

“It is also very important to make the laws timely as well as their proper execution, simultaneously, to establish the rule of law,” he added.

During the courtesy meeting, the commission presented to the chairman two books titled “Avighat Prokriay Bangladesh Songbidhan” and “The Journey of the Constitution of Bangladesh” published by the Law Commission.

During the meeting, the commission briefed the president on the books.

The Law Commission of Bangladesh is an independent body, established by an act passed by the national parliament, which reviews laws and recommends reforms where necessary in Bangladesh.

Judge ATM Fazle Kabir, member of the Law Commission, accompanied the president of the commission during the meeting.

Secretary of the Office of the President Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Major General SM Salah Uddin Islam and Secretary (detached) Md Wahidul Islam Khan also attended the meeting. (BSS)
